If you have ever thought that your supercar collection looked lonely all by themselves in your garage, you’re not alone. In fact, a luxury condo complex called Iron Gate Motor Condos is being built right now in Naperville, Chicago for that very reason. “I would be with my cars, all perfectly parked on the angle and with spotlights on each one, and its dead silence,” founder Tom Burgess told the Chicago Tribune. “This is not the way it’s supposed to be. This is a hobby about passion and common interest. I figured I wasn’t the only car collector who felt that way.”
Iron Gate will feature 160 condominium garages for car owners to mingle with other collectors. The first phase recently finished, with its 59 units quickly selling out. Some buyers are buying multiple and some are even having them linked internally, so they can drive their cars between them.
Though these spaces are housing some pretty great automobiles, like a 2009 Aston Martin Vantage and a 1953 Bentley R Type, they’re also built to accommodate actual living. Some owners have added gourmet kitchens, wet bars, fireplaces and obviously, tons of furnishings. One apparently even added a half-size basketball court. The only drawback is that due to local zoning ordinances, you can’t actually have a bedroom added.
More than just a “man cave,” one can easily make these condos their new office space, because wowing prospective clients with a classic car collection is a sure-fire way to close any deal. Prices start at $129,000 for the smallest condo at 20-foot-by-40-foot.
